GULF STORM PEEWEE AA WIN GOLD

The 2014-15 Gulf Storm Peewee AA team capped off a very successful season on March 17^th by winning the Hockey PEI Provincial Championship Tournament held in Tignish March 15-20^th. The Gulf Storm had an overall season record of 33 wins, 9 losses and 7 ties in league and tournament play throughout the year. The team posted ties to North River and O’Leary and a win against Charlottetown in the round robin portion to advance to the semi-final of the Provincial Championship. They then faced the home town Tignish Aces after a weather delay pushed the tournament into the following week. Gulf Storm prevailed in a tight 3-2 contest after giving up the first 2 goals and having to play catch-up throughout the game. The final came down to O’Leary and Gulf Storm for the championship. Lance Murphy opened the scoring for the Storm but O’Leary fought back to go ahead 2-1 midway into the third period. Carter Champion was strong in nets holding the Gulf Storm in the game. Duncan Picketts managed to tie the game in the last minutes to send the game into sudden death. Heidi Lauwerijjsen finished the game scoring 3:11 into the extra frame to claim the Provincial Championship.
